Roger Pouncey is a Jazz guitarist based in Richmond, VA. Roger recently graduated from VCU’s Jazz Studies program, where he received a VCU Jazz fund scholarship 3 years running. He has also been awarded the Gin Robertson Scholarship, and the Richmond Jazz Society’s Joseph J. Kennedy Junior Jazz music scholarship. Roger was also chosen twice to take part in a South African exchange grant.
Rogers influences include: Bill Frisell, John Abercrombie, John Scofield, Bill Evans, Paul Motian, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Wayne Shorter, The Beatles, and Charles Mingus among others.
He teaches locally as well as performing regularly with various groups including his own trio, quartet, and the quintet Hunky Cousin.
